WRITING

WHAT IS ART?

Art can be defined in multiple ways. Art is in everything we see. From the nature of the world to the sketchings created by individuals, art lies in it all. Line design, value, shading, depth, rhythm, texture, and color are the elements that make art. One form of art is taken through photographs of any object or scenery in a way that is pleasing to the eye. When someone takes the time to take a photograph then edit it to a way that is unique, it is art. In the same way, art is the time taken by individuals to develop a sketch, to put in the elements they find best suit their artwork, and to publish it when their work is complete.

Art is derived from the imagination and creativity of people. Not only are photographs and works created by individuals considered art, but any subject matter that creates controversial debates and small talk is a form of art. Everyone speaks to the world in different ways and shows the world their art in different forms. Buildings, posters, propaganda, interior designs, exterior designs, monuments, and just about everything else is art in this world. There are objects, photographs, sketches, graphic designs, paintings, animation, and much more that have art in it but it may not be seen by certain individuals. Roller coasters, tunnels, and roads are the few things in the world that are created by mankind that some people may not see the art in. However, the process of designing, developing, and forming such things for the world is art.

Art is anything that was born from the minds of people who took the time to create a piece of work that is pleasing to themselves and those around them. I see the art in everything around me, whether it is the technology in the world, the trees that tower over my house, the bench outside my art class, or something as simple as a scissor, I find the development and possible transformations of the product art.

WHAT IS DESIGN?

Design is the pattern, lines and structure of an object, picture, clothing item, accessory, or room. From the stripes of my carpet to the dimensions of a building, design is in everything. Design is a mixture of lines, color, and repetition that are on an object. People create designs for a purpose and a plan. Repetition of patterns such as flowers, animals, characters, polka-dots, and many other patterns are a type of design. Posters have design in them that was created by certain people or one person. When time is taken to layout an idea, prepare a look, or sketch a drawing for something, it is design.

Design is found in everyday objects such as people’s comforters, their electronics, the layout of their rooms, and even in something as simple as their kitchenware. Swirls, triangles, squares, lines, and certain types of paints are just a few of the designs found in art. Certain subject matters such as those designs are what creates a final product of what to put on a piece of paper, a wall, or a rug. Not only are the patterns found in certain things around the world considered design, but so are the buildings that surround everyone today. To form a building suitable for its purpose and sturdy for possible disaster, it takes the time and effort from individuals to design it. When doing so, people have to consider the type of material that should be used, where windows and doors should go, where the wheelchair accessible pathway should go, and many more. All of these concerns leads up to the final design of a building.

Design is also found in objects people use consistently such as laptops, tablets, phones, and cars. These types of objects take an element of design that has to work for its purpose, run smoothly, and please the audience using them. Design is what makes the world and what is utilized inside of it run well. Without the proper mindset, layout, preparation, and planning, everything people own that has design to it would not be as etiquette or useful if it did not suit the needs for its purpose.

WHAT IS CRAFT?

Craft is about doing projects by yourself with your own two hands. It is a skill that everyone can endure and benefit from. It is an activity everyone can enjoy. As kids, most teachers had crafty assignments for their students at a young age. Crafting is a skill that can be developed through exercising your brain and creativity. Whether it is building a house from wooden sticks, molding clay into a pumpkin jar, or building a pirate ship, it is a form of craft. Crafting has a variety of small and big projects along with various techniques and projects. Do-it-yourself (DIY) projects are usually very crafty. Sometimes it is better to create your own items which take a creative mindset and skill. One form of craft is making your own project with your own touch such as binding your own sketchbook together for art or making your own scrapbook with your choice of binding with rope, string, ribbon, or anything else. Tools I frequently use to craft is my hot glue gun, double-sided tape, Mod Podge, brushes, jars, and much more. Crafting is a form of art that uses your hands in a different way rather than just drawing and that is all. It is handy work that makes projects fun and is a sort of stress reliever to get down with your own project. Quilting, knitting, and sewing is a form of craft as well which works a different creative stem in your brain. Crafting is a great activity for best friends, kids, couples, and your spare time. Anything that can be done with bare hands, formed into a project, and created with individuals’ personal touches are what makes crafty items.

WHAT IS CREATIVITY AND KNOWLEDGE?

Creativity and knowledge are two important parts of human beings. Once a child is born, their knowledge grows from what is around them, what they are taught, and how they observe everything. By definition, knowledge is what is known by a person; they could gain the knowledge they have by facts, information given, skills from school, familiar norms, and from others’ knowledge. On the other hand, creativity is an original characteristic that develops in people’s brains on their own. Creativity and knowledge are two different words with different meaning, but they both coincide with each other. Everyone can use their knowledge and creativity hand-in-hand.

Knowledge is a stem, a root, and the birth to creativity in human beings. Creativity is not necessarily derived from an individual’s knowledge but what people know tend to affect the art and ideas they create. Most beginning art classes consist of information on what creates art, what makes a good art piece, what the basic elements are to an art piece, and how to go about your artwork. Students then use the knowledge they gained from long lectures and study sessions to implement them into the pieces they are going to create. By using what you know, you can develop an exquisite original piece of art.

Creativity may stem from a person’s own knowledge, but it takes extra time and an extra push to come with their own ideas and their own works of art. However, original works could also be a development from what people never knew before, what they never thought they could do, and simply experimentation. Everyone has a creative stem in their brains and their body, but may not know it until they get their hands on something they never thought of before. Unlike knowledge, people, in a sense, have to find their creativity within themselves. They can be taught what art is, what great inventions have been made, and what are the elements to a good idea and great piece of art, but they cannot learn their creativity without doing something original themselves.

Satisfaction comes from the two words, but creativity is a push from knowledge on its own. People cannot be given creativity the way they are given knowledge. It is solely up to individuals themselves to push their potential farther by making works of their own; it could be a building, a painting, a sketch, a robot, or anything else. For instance, a student may have learned how to make a line dynamic, but in order to make their own piece of art, they would have to extend their knowledge through their hands as they create their own art piece. Creativity does not have a limit, but knowledge can have an ending to its facts.

Everyone can become a creator and learn a whole bunch of knowledge from the very moment they come into the world. The order in which knowledge and creativity come into people’s lives do not come one before the other necessarily, but it is up to the individual which one grows more and more and if it is before, after, or at the same  time as each other. Knowledge is a steady root to creating and developing your own ideas and publishing it.
